Lot.704 Denim Trousers C.1920'S Raw Indigo

One of T.T's iconic items. Taiga Takahashi preferred denim from store based brands rather than well known denim makers in particular Foremost, made by J.C. Penney, who began producing denims in the 1920s by imitating established brands before gradually developing their own unique styles. Takahashi collected these denims and imagined the brand's attempts to differentiate through trial and error in their design details. The original denim of T.T was created by taking over that creative mind.
Using 100% American organic cotton, the 3/1 left twill, light oz denim is woven on an old type power loom in Okayama a shuttle loom that can only weave at a speed ten to twenty times slower than a modern loom. The slow woven denim keeps the natural unevenness of cotton yarn, creating a desirable irregularity in the texture. The warp yarn is dyed with indigo mixed with sulphur dye, carrying a definitive green cast, weathered look. Rope dyeing is applied to leave the white core. The weft is custom made nep yarn dyed in a yellowed natural colour to express the passage of time. Together, these two yarns create Takahashi's unique indigo blue deep and rich. The fabric is sanforized to prevent shrinkage. Selvedge denim with a white edge, featured in various parts including the reverse side of the belt.
A notably high rise with a wide silhouette and straight vertical lines from the thighs to the hems. Essential design elements such as the round curve of the front pockets and the buckle back are retained. Iron buttons and back hardware marked with original engravings are left uncoated by design to produce aged beauty over time. All details from the 1920s are replicated by faithfully following the methods of the period. The signature leather patch is mud dyed on Amami Oshima Island.
