The cardboard paintings on display are inspired by photographs from old photo albums, media images from popular culture, and old master paintings. The main theme for this particular exhibition is: Women throughout history and present time. Through the deliberate media transfer from photography to painting, memories as well as longings are to be evoked in the viewers. A specific focus on details such as postures or lighting moods allows the painting process to be experienced as a subjective mode of perception. The materiality of the cardboard, which originates from small regional neighborhood stores, also plays with the trivial everyday aesthetics of Zurich city life. As part of the composition, the unprocessed painting ground becomes a projection surface for reflections on a sustainable use of art materials and takes up the critical examination of the flood of images in the digital age.
Bio: Born in 1989, the artist is a native of the Engadine. He attained a bachelor's degree in fashion design at the ESMOD in Berlin. After several years working as an employed fashion designer as well as a freelancer in Zurich, a study in Fine Arts at Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro followed. Since 2019 he has been residing again in Zurich and working as an artist in the interdisciplinary fields of painting, graphic design and textile design.
Die Kartonbilder sind inspiriert von Fotografien aus alten Fotoalben, Medienbildern der Populärkultur aber auch Altmeister Gemälden. Das Hauptthema dieser besonderen Ausstellung lautet: Frauen in Geschichte und Gegenwart. Durch den bewussten Medientransfer von der Fotografie in die Malerei sollen bei den Betrachtenden Erinnerungen wie auch Sehnsüchte hervorgerufen werden. Eine spezifische Fokussierung auf Details wie Körperhaltungen oder Lichtstimmungen lassen den Malprozess als subjektiven Wahrnehmungsvorgang erfahrbar werden. Die Materialität des Kartons, der aus kleinen regionalen Quartierläden stammt, spielt zudem mit der banalen Alltagsästhetik des Zürcher Stadtlebens zwischen high und low. Als Teil der Komposition wird der unbearbeitete Malgrund zur Projektionsfläche für Überlegungen zu einem nachhaltigen Umgang mit Kunstmaterialien und greift die eingangs erwähnte kritische Auseinandersetzung mit der Bilderflut im digitalen Zeitalter wieder auf.
Bio Reto Crameri
1989 im Engadin geboren. Bachelorstudium in Modedesign an der ESMOD Berlin. Nach mehrjähriger Tätigkeit als Modedesigner in Anstellung sowie freiberuflich in Zürich folgt ein Studium in Fine Arts an der Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro. Seit 2019 wieder Zürich wohnhaft und als Künstler interdisziplinär in Malerei, Grafik, Textil- und Keramikdesign tätig.
