On the Hunt for the perfect Tea Cup
That we have a weak spot for pottery is no secret and we are always looking for new as well as vintage pottery and ceramics from all over the world.
Last April we payed a visit to the pottery of Doi Din Daeng in the province of Chiang Rai, Thailand. Nestled in a shady bamboo forest just a twenty minute drive form the city of Chiang Rai you can visit and wander around the worshops founded and owned by artist Somluk Khantibun. The master of pottery studied and worked many years in Japan and once back home decided to teach his techniques and share his experiences in the field to Thai students. Together with his Japanese wife he settled at Doi Din Daeng - meaning the “red earth hill” in Thai.
The result is more then worth a visit - the showroom, shop and workshops of Doi Din Daeng are by now an institution, using local materials for all steps of production, from soil for the clay to roots and minerals for glazings, and is attracting students not only from Thailand but also form Japan, Korea and other countries.
As a visitor you have the chance to see every stage of pottery making as well as a lot of extraordinary pieces that are exhibited on the compounds.
And of course we brought back a few pieces for you. (in store only)
