Opia Advent DAY 7 with Isabelle Mayer
Are you a Christmas lover?
Christmas to me is pure nostalgia. I always feel like its set back in my childhood.
Do you have any Holiday / Christmas traditions?
On Christmas Eve our family - my parents and my two sisters - gather and we celebrate with dinner and a Christmas tree. On the 25th we celebrate with the whole extended family, aunts, uncles and cousins. It is a tradition that started with my grandmother and even though she passed away a few years ago we continue to carry it on.
What is your favourite food during the holidays?
I like our traditional Christmas Eve dinner of beef filet with a morel sauce, vegetables and wild rice.
What is your most vivid childhood memory of Christmas?
When I was little my father used to take us to the forest before dinner on Christmas Eve, that way my mother was able to put on the Christmas decorations. We used to take lanterns with us and sometimes the forest was covered in snow – it was like a fairy-tale.
What is on your wish list this holiday season / Christmas?
Many nice evenings with my beloved ones, good food and inspiring conversations.
What was your favourite Christmas present as a child?
A relative used to be head of visual merchandising at Globus. Usually he would drop off a bag full of fabrics, leftovers from the Christmas decoration, like beautiful velvet or satin. I would drape some of these creations with safety pins and show them at home. For there was no better gift than this.
Which gift did you want but never get?
All the gifts I wished for but didn’t get as child I somehow managed to piece together. Therefore, the only wish that is still unfulfilled is a dog.
If you have to choose the perfect gift for your best friend / loved one from your own collection, what would it be?
It would be the «Van Gogh’s Ears» blooddrops made of silver that are already on the wishlist of my mother and my older sister.
